Yanomami Jaguar by Ata Kandó – 1967

33 x 28cm – vintage gelatin silver print

Ata Kando’s photo Yanomami Jaguar was taken in 1967 during one of several exploratory reportage trips to South America.  This disguise was to veer off the jaguar.

With many exhibitions and publications of her work, Kandó was one of the pioneers that raised awareness about the genocide against the remote forest tribes in the Amazon. Unfortunately, after over half a century, there is still a lot of work to be done to save the jungle and its people.

Following Ata Kandó’s wishes, part of the funds raised from her Indians vintage prints goes to the-nonprofit organization Survival International which she helped set up in the very beginning.

Family Collections

Single mom Ata Kandó had two main goals: 1. To work and spend time with her 3 children (hence all the storybooks with her children as protagonists), and 2., to raise public awareness about important issues. Each photo is a story.

From her books, notes, letters, and sound recordings made near the end of her life, the family is now able to disclose those stories. When you buy an Ata Kandó vintage print you can also get the full background story about each of those print.
