Ata Kandó joined an expedition deep into the Amazon jungle where she visited the isolated Yekuana and Yanomamo tribes.

It wasn’t until the end of the sixties, partly through Ata Kandó’s documentations, that it became known that certain tribes in South America were  being systematically exterminated.

In collaboration with Survival International, she organised a traveling exhibition of her photos and book Slave or Dead  to raise awareness in an attempt to bring the genocide to a halt.

Ata Kandó’s book Blood of the Moon is a fascinating and often humorous account of her life-changing adventures among her beloved Indians, some of whom had never seen a white woman before. Blood of the Moon is soon appearing in English. STAY TUNED!
