Peru

In 1965 Ata Kando went to Peru to make a reportage of the whale hunt. The extreme decibels of the harpoon cannon shots caused her permanent partial deafness.

As always, concerned with animal welfare, in 2009, she contributed her whale hunting pictures to the book The Living Other, a joined project with Diana Blok and Sacha de Boer.

The Living Other reveals the potentially devastating relationship between humans and animals around the globe. The photos tell the story of the immoral, barbaric behaviour of humans while often anthropomorphizing the nature of animals.
